Introducing: Nomos Zurich World Time Rome x Gioielleria Grande

There are so many things to be said about Nomos, such as the brand’s unique sense of design mixing minimalism with fun colourful twists, the in-house production of most movement components or the overall depth of the collection. However, complications hardly ever crop up in conversations about the brand. Except for the Zurich World Time or Weltzeit… Undoubtedly the most complex watch in the Glashütte-based portfolio, it has already been seen in various editions, from the classic white or blue models to limited editions done with style. Now it’s time for Gioielleria Grande, an Italian retailer, to bring its own touch to the Nomos Zurich World Time.

All in all, we’re talking about aesthetics here because the technical base of the Nomos Zurich World Time is kept intact. This means a 40mm case made of polished stainless steel with a pleasantly thin profile, just below 11mm (which has to be one of the thinnest WT in this segment). As always with Nomos, the lugs are long, which is something to consider. The case retains its sapphire crystals on both sides and a 30m water resistance. It’s an elegant and sleek case, which keeps things classic in order to bring attention to the dial and its functions.

The Zurich World Time relies on the combination of a 24-city ring actuated by a pusher at 2 o’clock and a cool home-time 24-hour ring (positioned between the dial and the city ring) corrected by a recessed pusher and combined with a pointer on the dial. Under the sapphire back is the elegant and nicely finished calibre DUW 5201, an in-house automatic movement with 3Hz frequency and 42h power reserve.

All of these details are well-known and identical to other editions of the Zurich World Time. What makes this Rome x Gioielleria Grande edition unique is the combination of colours and small distinctive details. The dial is executed in an elegant brown tone (a warm dark brown Pantone to mimic Gioielleria Grande’s corporate colours) with a matching brown Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan strap. Another unique and pleasant feature is the presence of a folding clasp, a first for the Zurich WT.

Other small details include the red Rome indication on the city ring, which replaces Berlin as the GMT+1 reference city, or the small representation of Rome’s famous Colosseum, replacing the red home drawing to indicate the home time. Finally, the crown is engraved with Grande instead of Nomos as a reference to the Italian retailer. The back also carries several unique engravings, as well as the number of the watch.
